Release notes assessmentQ 2026.02

Updated over a month ago

Introduction

This release expands assessmentQ’s mathematics item capabilities with additional support for advanced mathematical expressions, making the platform even better suited for advanced maths exams.

We’ve also strengthened monitoring and CheatGuard functionalities to further enhance exam integrity and supervision workflows.

🔥Must see

The most important updates in this release — changes that impact how you work with assessmentQ.

Math entry with CAS

A new dedicated item type for math problems evaluated by the Computer Algebra System (CAS) is now available in assessmentQ: Math entry with CAS.

Math entry with CAS supports evaluation per problem with multiple interchangeable gaps, giving authors more flexibility when designing complex mathematical items.
The CAS evaluates whether the participant's answer is mathematically equivalent to the solution, regardless of how it is written.

Notes:

  • Existing Math entry items with CAS enabled have been automatically migrated to the new Math entry with CAS item type.

  • If the problem(s) in these items contains buttons that are not supported in the Math entry with CAS item type, the items will be set to Draft when the author opens them in the item bank. A validation message will be displayed.

  • If these items have already been added to an assignment, they will remain unchanged in the assignment. Participants can answer these items as before. The CAS evaluation in these items remains unchanged (i.e. per gap).

New math buttons and categories

Over 80 new math buttons have been added to the math editor, organized in both existing and brand-new categories. This significantly expands the range of mathematical expressions participants can enter during exams.

Math editor templates

We have introduced math editor templates. These templates define which math buttons are available for participants in the math editor:

  • Math editor templates are defined by the administrator of your assessmentQ environment.

  • When creating math items, authors can use these predefined templates instead of manually selecting individual math buttons for each item. This makes the configuration of the math editor in math items faster and more consistent across different items.

👀Need to know

Smaller improvements and tweaks that make every day work smoother.

CheatGuard: Device and browser enforcement

A new Device and browser check option has been added to the CheatGuard template. When scheduling your exams, you can now enforce device and browser compatibility to ensure that all CheatGuard features work reliably during high-stakes exams.

Improvements for Onsite exams monitoring

  • Schedules overview
A new column CheatGuard template has been added to the schedules overview of onsite exams, allowing supervisors to identify which exams have security measures enabled.

  • Sessions overview
A new Status column has been added to the sessions overview within a schedule, allowing supervisors to instantly see each participant’s session status (not started, online, interrupted, offline, finished, and locked or unlocked).
A new Reasonable adjustments column is also available allowing supervisors to easily identify the participants for whom reasonable adjustments are enabled.

  • Session detail page
When opening a session detail page, a supervisor now also sees an overview of all sessions in the left sidebar.

  • For participants with the External screen reader reasonable adjustment enabled, CheatGuard events such as Browser tab left and Window lost focus are now logged as informational events instead of warnings.

✂️ What we removed (and why)

Some things had to go so we can continue improving security, reliability, and the overall experience.

  • CAS evaluation in Math entry
A new dedicated item type, Math entry with CAS, for math problems evaluated by the Computer Algebra System (CAS) is now available in assessmentQ. As a result, the option to enable CAS evaluation has been removed from the Math entry item.
Existing Math entry items with CAS enabled have been automatically migrated to the new Math entry with CAS item type.
We invite you to explore the new math item type. For more information, see Math entry with CAS.

  • Correction, solution and result options in offline packages
Offline packages can no longer be created for assignments that use the check button, solution button, show result per item, show hint, or score display on finish. These features require server communication and are therefore incompatible with offline use.
